Creating a newsletter for a SIG

Project: A quarterly marketing piece (newsletter) produced by a shared interest group (the Yale Alumni Nonprofit Alliance – YANA). Each issue is an approximately 7-page pdf document, produced in electronic-only format.

Holding multiple pre-reunion Class get-togethers (“Preunions”)

Level of difficulty: Basic (Each event is basic, but  coordinating many is intermediate.)
Cost to attend: none (At museum, there was a low cost pay your own lunch at cafeteria.)
Award Winner: 2019

Project:  Class leadership invited classmates to host parties in their homes across the country for other classmates in their area. Class leadership then helped coordinate 9 get-togethers, one of which was a museum tour. Creating a high-traffic, moderated, closed Facebook group

Project:  This growing closed Facebook group (the Yale Alumni Facebook group) connects a large number of alumni. Yale Club abroad enhances Yale/China Student Exchange program

Cost to attend: Free for students (alumni pay for their own moderately priced dinners)

Project:  A Yale Club in Shenzhen, China, annually arranges a day-trip for visiting Yale students along with local Chinese students, to leading Chinese companies. All the students are part of a regular exchange program between Yale and Lingnan (University) College in China, organized in part by Yale-China. Day-long Workshops with Panel Discussions and Curated Exhibits

Project:  Organized by an ad hoc group of Robert Reed’s former students and colleagues, a series of day-long intensive drawing workshops, art lectures, panel discussions, and exhibits highlighted the art and teaching of Robert Reed, the first (and only) African American tenured by the Yale School of Art. Club Project for City Schools

Project: A Cleveland Yale Club project to interest and motivate kids in Cleveland’s inner city schools to become engineers. Many of these students know nothing about engineering careers. (The same idea of bringing alumni and their friends in a variety of jobs and careers to kids in schools in person, on the web and using YouTube also can be done.) Class Reunion Art Book

“All” Class Musicians featured at a Class Reunion

Level of difficulty: Advanced
Cost to participate: None (a Reunion is high cost, but nothing extra to attend this)
Award winner: 2010

Project: The Class of 1970 arranged enough “concerts” at its 40th Reunion in 2010, so that all classmates who were instrumental musicians had opportunities to perform.
